Ages 2–6 · Chiang Mai Grow-operative

Anchored in Heart, Mind, and Body

A play-based, multi-aged (2 to 6 years), bilingual co-op community in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Introduction

Roots anchor everything that grows

Just as roots anchor a plant, providing stability and serving as the vessel for all vital nutrients needed for growth, early childhood experiences create the foundation from which children will thrive. It is within this vessel that children effortlessly absorb and take in everything around them.

The Roots Program for children aged 2 to 6 is a play-based, multi-aged, and bilingual environment where they develop language, social-emotional skills, and executive functioning such as self-regulation, problem-solving, and impulse control, within an enriched, emotionally safe community, not a corporate classroom.

Upon enrolling, there is a gradual, parent-involved transition process. It takes a little more time, and it builds a foundation that lasts.

We Are

Six Pillars of the Roots Program

Everything we do at The Mud House sits on these foundations.

Safety & Connection

Physical and emotional safety come first, close connections, consistent routines and rituals, and a real voice in decisions within their limits.

Play

Play is not a break from learning, it is how learning happens. Language, imagination, cognition, and confidence all grow through it.

Literacy

Optional English & Thai phonics for ages 4–6, following the Letters and Sounds program, from sound awareness to reading and writing.

Bilingual Immersion

One-Person-One-Language: a native Thai-speaking and a native English-speaking facilitator working side by side, every day.

Multi-Age Community

Older children mentor younger ones, learning compassion and patience, everyone learns and grows together, side by side.

Life Values

We model the values we cultivate, including talking honestly about challenges and how we overcome them, with a growth mindset.

"When you look at children at play, you see that it is impossible to distinguish thinking from learning. When children are thinking, they are learning. Even if they are thinking the wrong answers, it is the process of thinking for themselves that makes them an educated person."
